All Members are Provided with Free Training, and Preparation, in Firefighting and/or EMS or Fire Police as part of their membership.

Requirements

18 YEARS OLD OR OLDER

We require all active-duty members to be at least 18 years or older to join as a Firefighter or Emergency Medical Care Provider.

LIVE IN DISTRICT

For any position, you must be a US Citizen or Legal Resident and must live within the Middle Island Fire District.

AVAILABILITY

Before applying, consider how much time you can commit to volunteering.

CLEAN BACKGROUND

We require all candidates to undergo screening and have a clean criminal record and drug testing before application approval.

Attention Middle Island Community,

OSHA is proposing updates to the “Fire Brigades” standard, which hasn’t been revised since 1980. Unfortunately, these changes could pose significant challenges for volunteer fire departments, making compliance burdensome or even impossible.

The proposed rules introduce strict standards for physical exams, equipment procurement, and emergency planning, which could exceed the capacities of many volunteer departments. This affects our ability to protect both our personnel and the communities we serve.
