“We can’t help you… if we can’t FIND you!”

For the most part, your family, friends, postal carrier, etc. know where you live. And when someone that has never been there before can’t find your house, time is usually no big deal; they can find a phone and call for directions.

But it CAN be a big deal if someone can’t find you quickly when a fire or a medical emergency occurs! Fire, ambulance, and police personnel who have never been to your house need to be able to locate you quickly when you call. If your home and/or mailbox does not CLEARLY show your address, it can delay vital emergency help to you or your neighbors. Minutes will seem like hours when you are waiting for help!

Be sure you that your house number is clearly displayed and visible from the street!

Attention Middle Island Community,

OSHA is proposing updates to the “Fire Brigades” standard, which hasn’t been revised since 1980. Unfortunately, these changes could pose significant challenges for volunteer fire departments, making compliance burdensome or even impossible.

The proposed rules introduce strict standards for physical exams, equipment procurement, and emergency planning, which could exceed the capacities of many volunteer departments. This affects our ability to protect both our personnel and the communities we serve.

By signing the petition and submitting a comment, you can voice your concerns and help protect the interests of volunteer fire departments.
